They Shoot Horses (Christians) Don’t They?

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you be tempted.” (Gal. 6:1)
When I was a teenager, I remember seeing a movie entitled, “They shoot horses don’t they?” Honestly, I don’t remember much about the movie. I am pretty sure it was about putting down an injured racehorse.
I thought once of writing a book (not that anyone would read it) entitled “They shoot preachers don’t they.” A friend of mine made a comment the other day, “The Christian army is the only one that shoots its own wounded.” I hope that isn’t true. I am sure other groups are guilty, and I am sure there are Christians who don’t.
But how often do we actually do that? Why is it that we make heroes of former convicts, prostitutes, drug addicts, etc. who are saved and come to Christ, but when a Christian stumbles, we ignore them, or condemn them, or accuse them. God’s Word says, “Restore them.”
Paul warned the Corinthians, “Therefore, let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”(I Cor. 10:12). Don’t make the mistake o9f thinking of someone else’s failure that it couldn’t be you, or that you would never do that.

Let’s stop shooting wounded Christians, and restore them.
