Is it Really Radical?

Jesus said, ‘If anyone would come after me.” That is an open invitation. Anyone can choose to follow Jesus. But this is amazing. Not on our own terms. We can’t have it our way. HOW TOTALLY UNAMERICAN IS THAT? “I have a right to….”

Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny Himself.” From the world’s point of view, that is pretty radical. Deny myself? What about my rights? My comforts? My plans? GONE. Right out the window. With the wind. Zippola.

He said, “Let the person wanting to follow me take up His cross and follow me.” Last time I checked, crosses weren’t gold or silver and on a chain to wear around our neck. Not even ink to be injected under our skin. Crosses were roughly hewn out of wood to kill people on. Really, Jesus. If I want to follow You, I have to be prepared to die.

Maybe it is radical to expect church members to actually be born again. Maybe it is radical to expect church members to obey the Bible and to love one another. Maybe it is radical to expect church members to take a stand and witness for Jesus. But listen, is it really just radical, or is it Christian?
