What Is Heaven Like?

Posted: November 7, 2011 in Uncategorized

Many of us go to church all of our lives and hear sermons on how to get to heaven, but rarely one on what heaven is actually like. Jesus said, “Don’t let your heart be troubled.” He said, “I am going to prepare you a place in my Father’s house. I will come again and receive you unto myself so you can be where I am.” (John 14:1-6)

Heaven is a promise. Jesus, who cannot lie, said, ‘I am going to prepare you a place. And I will come and get you when it is ready.” Heaven is a place. Not some whistful dream-like state. A place. And heaven is the presence of a person. It is being where Jesus is, forever.

So what is it like? It is not living on a cloud with wings and playing a harp. Revelation 21 says, ‘I saw a new heaven and a new earth.” Imagine the world around you, as it was originally, before sin. Heaven is what God originally intended of this world. Perfect harmony in all of creation. All of the beauty of God’s majestic creation, but no sin, no sorrow, no sickness, no death. Don’t look up, look around you.

Not just one long church service. But indeed unlimited access to the presence of God. A wondeful, beautiful, sin-free, perfect place, forever.

Jesus said, “Where I am going, you know, and you know the way.” Thomas asked, “How can we know the way. “Jesus said, ‘I am the way.'” Will you be there?
