What happens when you die? Where will you be 30 seconds (or much less) after you die? Who goes to heaven? Is there a Hell?
Most Americans, it seems, develop there theology these days from a compilation of TV shows, movies, and conversations with friends. Barna tells us that the majority of Americans believe in heaven, and most people think they are going there.
Jesus said, “There is a narrow door.” Not everyone finds it. The Bible teaches that when you die, you will live forever in one of two places, heaven or hell. The Bible teaches that temporarily, if you die outside of Christ you go to what the Old Testament calls Sheol, and the New Testament calls Hades. You will wait there until the end of history as we know it, when God will then judge the living and the dead. Those who died outside of Christ will be cast into the lake of fire, the Bible says In Revelation 20, which is hell.
Those who die as follower of Christ go to where God is. Paul wrote to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. They will await the day of Restoration when “the new heaven and the new earth” are revealed in Revelation 21-22. But don’t take my Word for it, read the Bible. Since it is the Word of God, it is absolute truth. It answers all the questions.
Does it matter? Listen, you are not prepared to live, until you are ready to die.
