RELIGION SUCKS…..the life out of you.

I hate religion. I don’t want to be a religious person. I think most religious people are selfish, mean, and bound for hell.

Have I gotten your attention yet? “Religion” is the activity of people to try and gain God’s approval. It is built on a code of behavior of certain “do’s” and “Don’ts” that you are expected to practice in order to be “religious.”

Think about all the evils of the world in the name of religion. The Crusades were two powerful religions killing each other. Think of the masses in India that are oppressed in the name of religion, even hungry with cows walking around that could feed them if they weren’t worshipping them.

Knowing God is not about being religious. Knowing God is about entering into a personal relationship with the living God, and then enjoying daily fellowship with Him. I believe that God can make the rules because He is God. I believe that God can disclose Himself to us, or not. I believe that if God discloses Himself to us in some form of revelation, He determines how we come to know Him.

Being a follower of Jesus Christ is not subscribing to a religion. It is acknowledging in faith that God has indeed revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ and that He has made a way of access to Himself. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except by me.” (John 14:6)

Some will say, that is so narrow minded. Maybe. But consider this. It is narrow in that it is one way, the only way. But it is broad in that anyone can come that way. Religion sucks the life out of you. A relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the beginning of real life.

Not too narrow minded, It is truth. Simple, blessed truth! Thanks.
    Couple things however…
One of my pet peeves is the way the Crusades are taught. I would like to let you know that the crusades were not really a religious war, in the sense that they have been potrayed. Check out the book “God’s Batalions” by Rodney Stark.
There is a religious element to being a follower of Jesus Christ. We read this in James (Jas 1:27) “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
We are not saved by faith, but our works are a sign to the world of our living faith. For as James also said “Faith without works is dead.”
Perhaps a more simple way of putting it is that if we are to be followers of Jesus, and are to be subjects to his Lordship then we need to be doing what he did and commanded, which was serving and loving others.
Other than that I agree!!! Thank you!

    • Did you mean to say we are not saved by faith,or we are saved by faith? Just want to be clear. Thanks for the information on the crusades.

We are indeed saved by faith, and faith alone. Our works are an outward sign of our having been “Born Again”, they are the outward sign of God’s working in us. Thus, God’s work for good, as per what was stated in James 1:27.

If “religion” is sucking the life out of you, then you are doing something wrong, or perhaps with the wrong goals. Organized religion, in my humble opinion, often isn’t about love and praising the Lord. I say often, because I have witnessed some very beautiful things going on at a few churches that we have visited. One in particular was incredibly organized and PACKED with people of all ages and races. The experience of attending that church was so incredibly moving to me, that I sat there with tears jsut streaming down my face because I felt God’s spirit so deeply. Just to look around at all of the people smiling and singing and really really praising God was so awesome. No one cared what anyone wore, or what anyones skin color was. It wasn’t about US it was about GOD, as it should be. God replenishes us and fills us with hope and with love. He is who we go to when everything else is sucking the life out of us!

    • I think you pretty much made my point. From my point of view religion is mam made efforts to please God. It is about rules and regulations. The Bible teaches a personal relationship with a living God.
