Says Who?

On Tuesday evening I went with a group to distribute Christmas gifts in one of the men’s correctional facilities in our state. They were put together by SC Baptists, as is done every year. As I made my way into one dorm room, the inmate was on his bed reading the Bible. I asked him, “Do you know the author of that book?” He said, “Do you mean King James?”

The Bible is a remarkable book. It is in fact actually a collection of sisty six books, with many human authors, and it covers thousands of years in history. Yet, it has one central theme. It is the story of God’s incredible love for humanity and for His creation, and of His sacrifice to reconcile people to Himself and redeem a fallen creation. From Genesis to Revelation, it is all God’s Story.

While there are multitudes of human instruments, God is the author. Translated into english, the King James Version is one of many translations into English. But 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All scripture is God-breathed.” That means that it originates with God. God is the author. So that when the Bible speaks, God speaks. The Bible is not God, but it is the Word of God. Not men’s words about God, but God’s words to mankind.

Says Who? According to the Bible, says God.
