Love has a Name

In our world, a lot of things masquerade as love. I can say I love pizza; I love my wife; I love fishing. Love can be a word that covers anything from the garbage pile of lust to the sublime of worship.

Jesus said, “Greater love has no person than this, that someone will lay down their life for a friend.” Jesus demonstrated this by offering Himself to die in our stead. His atoning death for our sins forever redefined love. Because of what He did, the name attached to love is Jesus.

Philippians tells us that even though Jesus was God, He did not feel it necessary to hold on to His privileges of divinity, but humbled Himself to become a man. The He willingly submit Himself to death on a cross. Amazingly, 2Cor. 5:21 tells us that even though Jesus had never sinned Himself, He willingly submit Himself and was made sin for us. Why? So we might be made righteousness in God’ eyes as He sees us hidden in Christ through faith.

As we approach Easter, we must never see the cross as the tragic martyrdom of a good man. It was God’s power at work to open the way of salvation.
