Leave the Light On

Posted: May 8, 2012 in Uncategorized

I barely had walked in the door at home when I got a text message that said, “You left your light on, motel 6.” The reference was to the light in my office at the church building. I had been in a meeting in the front part of the church, and walked out that direction not noticing the light was on in my office.I debated and decided that it would be alright for the night.

So this morning I woke up with a text from someone else. “Hope this doesn’t wake you, but the light is on in your office.” All of this left me thinking about the commercial where a man named Tom Burdette, says, “We’ll leave the light on for you.” Sad that comes from a motel chain, instead of the body of Christ. But what if we made that our life motto.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16) Is your light shining today? What about everyday? Can other people see the light of God shining through you.The Bible teaches that men and women, boys and girls, who do not know Jesus Christ are separated from God by their sins. They are lost and without hope. So are we willing to leave our light shining to show the way?

I thought it might be a good challenge for each of us to consider this morning. Let’s leave the light on.
