What? What if “what” were today? Well, your time. We all know that our lives are terminal somewhere in the deep recesses of our mind and heart. But we press on as though tomorrow will come, and the day after, and the day after. Two things, however, could bring your time to an end
One, you could die. When we get up each morning, most of us do not greet the day as though it were our last. Recently a man with terminal cancer said to me, “I feel sorry for those who do not know they are going to die. For me,” he said, “every day is a gift.” You are going to die. It might even be today. The Bible says, “It is appointed unto man, once to die. After this, the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27
OK, so we will all die, so what? The last part of that verse reminds us that we all will face a final audit of our lives. God has given each of us time, talent, and a certain amount of treasure. We are not responsible for what we do not have, but for what we have been entrusted with. And we are “stewards” of that, managers, so to speak. It does not belong to us, but to God.
The other thing that might bring us to the end of our time is this: not everyone will die.At some point, God will say that is it. When He does, the Bible promises that Jesus Christ will return. Time will move into the final moments. The Bible says that those who are believers will rise to meet Christ in the air. Believe what you want to, but it is certain.
Either of those options brings me back to my question: what if it were today? Here is the point: Are you ready?
