With mustard, please.

In LUke 10, Jesus sent out 70 of his followers in pairs of two to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God.They were to tell people in every city, the kingdom of God has come near you. In Matthew 13:31, Jesus says that the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. It is one of the smallest seeds of any plant. And yet Jesus promised that when it was grown, the mustard plant was one of the largest plants in the garden, actually a tree with branches for the birds to light upon.

Is it not true that as the seed of the Kingdom is sown, the nurture it must have is faith? There were villages where the Bible tells us that Jesus did not perform many miracles because of their unbelief. On one occaision Jesus said we only needed faith the size of a mustard seed.

As we proclaim the Gospel, only the SPirit of God can bring conviction of truth in a person’s heart. We can only declare in most cases, “The Kingdom of God has come near you today.” Fortunately we run into people like Zaccheus in most places as well, where like Jesus we can say, ‘Salvation has come to this house today, this person also is a son of Abraham.”
